getting the garden started

so yeah, it's not much to speak of in that picture... I took that maybe a week ago, and since then my plants have gotten a lot more luscious, and everything is growing, spread out, and looking so beautiful. one of my dogs, Ike, loves to sit out on the porch with me. I drink my coffee out there in the morning, water the plants, watch the train go by, play guitar, eat my scrambled eggs. it's just as charming as it sounds, I'm sure.

so far I've got a few flowers going:
lavender
allysum
amaranth

a few veggies that are starting to really show themselves:
onion
potatoes
French radishes
cherry tomatoes

a few more waiting to sprout:
bell peppers
cucumbers
lemongrass
oregano
cayenne peppers

and still a few more that I'd like to get going:
lettuces
basil
mint
cilantro
rosemary (but I always kill rosemary)
strawberries
and probably a bunch more that I'm not thinking of right now

I'm growing the vegetables in organic soil, and hoping to help them along with the vermicomposting, but I'll admit that I caved on the flowers and used Miracle-Gro, because my roommate Jake gave me two bags of it that he hadn't used, and I wasn't about to say no to free soil. also, walking home with a huge bag of organic soil (that thing must've weighed 40 lbs) wasn't exactly the easiest task I've had in this endeavor. I'm a chop wood and haul water kind of girl, but damn... on a busy Friday night when you're a little drunk, and a little stoned, it's not a lot of fun to walk through Wicker Park with a huge bag of soil over your shoulder, let alone the walk up four flights of stairs... but anyway.
