so I go to feed my worms today, and a lot of them are up top. are they trying to escape, have I made their home terribly inhospitable? I'm relatively new to this, but that still didn't seem right. so I guess it could be one of several problems -- a storm could be moving in, for one (and it seems like that's possible), but I could also be smothering them, or drowning them... I mixed in some food (a co-worker/friend brought me mushrooms, egg shells, parsley, and carrot peelings), loaded a little more dry soil in there to prevent it from being too moist, and now... I get to wait and see. what an adventure.
I thought from the start that I had too much soil in there, but my roommate insisted it was okay. of course I'm second-guessing him, now, too... I don't want 250 dead worms on my hands, the poor little buggers! I'll let them go until tomorrow, and see what's up after that. if they're still all squirming around on top, it might be time to scoop the mess out, and start it over. we'll see what happens.
